Mr. Ashok Chandak, B.Com, F.C.A. is a practicing Chartered Accountant from last 45 years and is a Treasurer of Ramratan Sarda Medical Help Society (RSMHS) since 2021. He is a trustee of RSMHS from 2018 and Founder Member of RSMHS.

He is a Member of Board of Management of Datta Meghe University of Medical Science (Deemed University), Chairman of Taxation and Corporate Law Committee of Vidarbha Industries Association, Nagpur and Sr. Partner of Shah Baheti Chandak & Co., Chartered Accountants.

He is Past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), (the apex body of accountants affiliated to SAARC).

He is the founder member of the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) constituted by Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) 2002-04. He was also a member of the National Advisory Committee on Accounting and Auditing Standards constituted by Government of India (GOI) for the year 2002-03.  He was also a member of the High Power Naresh Chandra Committee constituted by GOI to examine the Auditors independence and their relationship with companies.

He was member of

  • The Central Council of ICAI from 1995 – 2004,
  • The Western India Regional Council (WIRC) of ICAI from 1985-1994,
  • The Nagpur Branch of WIRC of ICAI from 1979 – 1985

He is Past Chairman of ICAI Accounting Research Foundation, New Delhi and was its Director during 2001-2009. He is Past Chairman of Chartered Accountants Benevolent Fund and was its trustee from 2001-2008. He also served on various committees constituted by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in the year 2002 -2004.

He was a member of the Working Group on Small and Medium Practitioners (SMPs) constituted by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), New York and became a founder member of Permanent Task Force on SMPs constituted by IFAC (2002 to 2004).  He also served as permanent invitee on the Inter Governmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting & Reporting (ISAR) of United Nations Conference on Trade And Development, Geneva (UNCTAD).

He was a member of the Dr Raja Chelliah Committee constituted by GOI to draft model Value Added Tax (VAT) for all state governments. He was also actively involved as consultant in the process of drafting of Value Added Tax Act & Rules for the various State Governments in India and piloted various studies in Indirect Tax Laws for various Committees of ICAI. He also trained the Officers of Government of Maharashtra, Punjab and Rajasthan in the field of VAT Laws. He has authored/co-authored various publications on Indirect Tax laws in India and in various South Asian countries, Including Guide to MVAT Audit.  He acts as a consultant and retainer for various large Indian and multinational corporations for VAT, Service Tax and GST including handling litigations.

He has contributed to various International and National Conferences and Seminars and also participated as head of Indian delegation in the XIth World Congress of Accountants at Hongkong and in the Conference of Government Financial Officers Association of USA at Denver. He has a unique honor to his credit for delivering the Annual Taxation Oration of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Srilanka in 1999, at Colombo; he is the first Indian to deliver such an oration.

He is also actively associated with and held various position in professional and social organizations like Secretary General and Vice President of  All India Federation of Tax Practitioners Association, Mumbai,  Founder Secretary and thereafter President of Vidarbha Tax Practitioners Association, Nagpur, President of Sales Tax Bar Association, Nagpur, Treasurer and Joint Secretary of Vidarbha Industries Association, Nagpur, He also served to Sales Tax Practitioners Association, Mumbai, Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Nagpur, Federation of Indian Chamber and Commerce and Industries (FICCI), New Delhi, Accounts and Statistics Board of Nagpur University etc..
